MSDs account for more than one third of all workplace injuries.
The most frequent type of MSD is a strain, which is trauma to a muscle or tendon. Strains can be caused by lifting, pushing or pulling too much weight, or by engaging in repetitive movements. Other typical MSDs involve carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis and back discomfort.
These injuries can be avoided by using appropriate lifting techniques, taking several breaks and using ergonomic devices. Employers can also help prevent injuries by providing their employees educational sources on putting a stop to them.
